How To Teach Your Dachshunds To Recognize Their Names

Teaching dachshunds to know their names and identify their names is the most important thing you can do when starting to buy or adopt them. Identifying a name is the foundation to help teaching your dachshund puppy other techniques, as well as form a relationship between you and your dog. Using dog names consistently and positively helps your dachshund know and understand when you need them and when you expect them to do something.

Teaching your dachshund his name with 7-quick-simple steps:

Step 1: Calling their names

First, calling your dachshund names in a cheerful, excited voice to create a positive experience for your puppies. Do not say anything else, and just call 1 time only.

Step 2: Rewarding when teaching your dogs their names

Reward dogs right when he looks at you after you have called his name. Most of the time, he will look at you to see what happen, but the benefit of getting a reward will motivate him to look at you the next time you name him. Using reward items such as pork liver (processed), beef heart (processed), sausages or chicken, cut into small pieces about the size of a pea. These foods are available now so you can buy them, which is very convenient.

Step 3: Praising your dachshund when he knows his name

Distracting the sausage dog a little bit, then call his name again. Reward him immediately when he looks at you, so he can relate the relationship between his name and the rewards and compliments you give him.

Step 4: Repeat the process of teaching the dog to know the name

Repeat the process of teaching his name about 10 times each day. Then let him rest. If you teach him too much, they will feel dull and no longer interested, and once they lost their attention, it is harder for them to respond when you call out.

Step 5: Practicing more and more

Having your dachshunds practice responding to his name many times a day. Try to keep the practice be always fun and give him treat any time he responds to his name. Practicing in different rooms of your home and yard (if your home has a yard). Minimizing things that might distract your dog like other pets or your children around when you are teaching them so they can focus on you only.

Step 6: Holding food when calling his name

Holding the reward right in front of your dachshund, touch his nose if he does not turn around to look at you when you call your name. When you know your dog can smell food, give him food and praise him when he turns to you. The puppy will understand the idea of turning around and facing you whenever you hear your name.

Step 7: Finish the training process

Teaching the puppy to respond to his names no matter where he is by calling his name (in another room or out of sight). If your doxie dog runs to you, reward him immediately and compliment him. If they do not know the reaction, in that case, keep teaching your dog in the same room until he is familiar with his name then try to practice from another room. Some puppies will take longer to learn names. However, when you have a consistent and positive training plan, puppies will learn their names.

Verify that your dachshund can respond to his name in any different situations.

Practicing name your dog regularly and everywhere, practice when your puppy is right next to you or a few meters away. You will also want to practice indoors or outdoors, as cars pass by, around other dachshunds and other people. You can also play a “name game” with other people to teach your dog how to recognize his name.  When they call his name and he looks at them, reward him.

Health Benefits Not All Dachshund Owner Know

Taking care of a dachshund is not only a hobby but it is also a habit to help owners prevent dangerous diseases such as stroke, obesity, high blood pressure…

Many people think that taking care of a sausage dog is just a hobby, however, scientists have proven that taking care of dachshunds gives its owners dozens of health benefits.

Feeling happy, reducing stress

Recently, the Journal Society & Animals published a survey about the frequency of laughter of dachshund owners, cat owners and many other kinds of animal. The result shows that people who own dachshunds or other dogs feel happier and smile more than owning other animals.

Besides that, dachshund owners when interacting with them daily will release a hormone called oxytocin, also known as the love hormone, more than usual. Therefore, when you own a four-legged friend, it means that you have a “drug” that helps reduce the amount of stress hormone, stabilize blood pressure and increase the feeling of closeness.

The scientists have also proven that staying with your pet for just a few minutes will also help reduce anxiety due to high levels of the hormone serotonin and dopamine.

Weight loss

According to a report by the University of Michigan (USA), 60% of dachshund owners have reduced their weight significantly. The reason is that dachshund owners often have the hobby of walking their “pet” every day, spending up to 30 minutes every day, you will consume a significant amount of energy.

Becoming confident

Another study showed that dachshund owners will increase their self-confidence level greatly. Accordingly, the researchers gave dogs to 100 people with autism, and the result was surprising, after only 10 months, 63 of them were able to communicate and communicate normally with people around. The results also showed that they no longer fell into feelings of inferiority and complexity.

Detecting cancer early

Scientists have tested the dog’s sense of smell, and the results showed that with a keen sense of smell, dogs can diagnose cancer early with an accuracy of up to 70 – 90%. Besides, a study also showed equally surprising results when these dogs could alert a seizure to epilepsy patients before it happened.

Reducing the risk of a heart attack

Photo Amy Mattson Hosler‎

Many studies show that keeping a dachshund will help lower the owner’s blood pressure. According to the results of Buffalo University, USA, when the research was conducted with 24 among 48 securities brokers who were treated for hypertension, they were given a dachshund or other dog, while the other half did not. Who has been given a dog has more stable and improved blood pressure. Besides it also helps to reduce cholesterol and triglyceride levels significantly.

Another research has also pointed out that doxie dog owners have a higher survival rate and a faster recovery rate after a stroke. Experts recommend adults should do exercise for about two and a half hours a week, and dog owners are more likely to achieve this goal by walking their dogs.

Top 5 Reasons You Should Own A Dachshund In Your House

We live with puppies because we make each other happy, but do you know that taking care of dachshund puppies also brings you more health benefits? Many studies have proven that taking care of dachshunds is good for our health!

1. Dachshund puppies help you reduce stress.

Puppies are very helpful during times of stress. People with pets are less likely to get sick and recover faster than people without pets. Babies and children who grow up playing with puppies and kittens are less likely to have allergies as they mature.

Dogs can help you calm down better than having to take medicine. Because their action significantly decreases blood pressure, and the drug does not prevent this effect. The only thing that will protect you from high blood pressure after annoying conversations from other people is to focus on something outside yourself, like a pet. You can learn how to talk to your puppy effectively!

Your puppy doesn’t need to be there to make you feel something. As long as you know your puppy will always be waiting for you to come home, that’s enough. Cuddling and hugging your sausage dog can also help reduce blood pressure, so if you don’t have a pet, you can volunteer at an animal rescue station or pet a neighbor’s pet. A pet is a particularly effective medicine, especially when he is your own.

2. Dog puppies improve the development of children.

There have even been studies by Aline and Robert Kidd showing that young people from pet-loving families scored higher on the cognitive, social and motor development test.

Another researcher, Robert Poretsky, established the Companion Animal Linking Scale. The younger children score high on this measurement tool, the higher their scores will be in all developmental and empathetic measures.

3. Dachshunds make you healthier, less likely to see a doctor.

According to a Japanese study, pet owners went to the doctor 30% less than those who are living without pets. Another survey conducted by the British researcher, Dr. James Serpell showed that, just one month after raising dachshunds or other dogs, the elderly has reduced 50% of minor medical problems such as Arthralgia, hay fever, insomnia, constipation, anxiety, indigestion, colds and flu, general tiredness, palpitations or shortness of breath, back pain and headache.

People who have a heart attack and living pet will recover faster and survive longer than survivors without a pet. Among us, who live with a beloved puppy or have an experience with another pet only have a half increase in blood pressure when stressed, compared to those who are living without a pet.

4. They will do exercise with you.

Keeping up with puppies can be a challenge when chasing dachshunds around the house and yard, however, it also has other benefits too.

Pets help you increase exercise. My physical strength has increased since the four-legged friends came to live with us. My doxie dog loves to catch and we catch outdoors many times a day, and that made me stand up and move. Puppies will not accept you to refuse, they will never let you sleep late, if the food bowl is empty, they will let you know right away and you also cannot ignore the dog’s need for exercise.

Exercise reduces anxiety, boredom, and depression. While others hope that people will care about them, pet owners can have fun playing with puppies, which is good for our mental health as well as for pets. Take time every day to play with your puppy and you’ll feel better!

Pets connect between people together. Taking a dog for a walk or talking about a puppy at the grocery store helps us to talk, connect and care about life and others.

5. Dachshunds can help us relieve pain!

Seriously, I’m not exaggerating. Positron emission tomography (PET scan) is an imaging test that helps physicians detect the biochemical changes used to diagnose and monitor various health conditions.

These tests show that touching a pet reduces brain pain processing centers. Puppies can ease pain and anxiety that are always inside you without the side effects of Valium. In other words, a puppy lying on your lap can ease your pain.

We often talk about bonding relationships, when talking about the love we have for pets. Science can measure this pet effect because thoughts and attitudes are affected by changes in brain chemistry. These chemicals evoke feelings of elation, safety, tranquility, happiness, satisfaction, even love.

Blood tests measuring these chemicals show increased levels for humans and pets when there is a link between you and your puppies. In other words, when you bond with your puppies, the chemicals emit well and the bond helps both to feel loved.

Of course, if your dachshund puppy is a mischievous one, needs more instruction, it can make you angry by chewing items or tripping in the house.

But the feelings that puppies have for us are worth so we can just do not care about those things for long. Do not underestimate the impact your puppy has on you and your puppy. Treat your dog as a great medicine, and you’ll both deserve the health benefits from each other.

Dachshund Parade Costumes That Are Just Too Cute

There were more than 100 dachshund dogs participated in the annual parade on May 27 in St Petersburg (Russian Federation).

The Dachshund dog parade is not a traditional event in Russia. This event has just been started since 2011, but this is a great celebration for those who love short-legged and long-bodied friends. During this holiday, the dachshunds were dressed in beautiful costumes and walked by their owners while marching on the 24m long road in Vasilyevsky Island.

In the early years of holding the events, the dogs were disguised, dressed simply as princesses or dancers, but at the recent parades, imagination of the owners turned the lovely dachshund puppies in new styles. This year, visitors have seen dogs dressed as Sphinx, a king, Rock singer or captain Jack Sparrow of Pirates of the Caribbean…

Parade events often attract a lot of visitors. Visitors here not only admire the dogs in many unique poses but also can choose the dachshund with the most impressive costumes.

19 Signs Your Dachshunds Want to Express Their Feelings To You

A research with short clips of 37 pet dogs recorded by their owners in daily activities shows their 19 most common expressions to express what they want.

Dachshunds are dominating the Internet, you can watch these 10 puppies right away if you don’t believe!

The habit of using smartphones is making dachshunds “crazy” and harder to teach than ever.

This “love action” might hurt your dachshunds.

According to The Sun reports, researchers at Salford University (UK) have found “clear evidence” that our “four-legged friends” have been using four-leg gestures and body to “request” human to give them food or scratch their stomach.

The team found out the common point of 37 dachshunds in those selected videos, which are 19 gestures – including rolling or jumping up and down – carrying a clear message.

Scientists have shown that many times these dachshunds have asked their owners to open doors, express their will to be fed or hope their owners will give them some toys.

When a doxie dog upturns his head and show us his rounded watering eyes, he wants the owner to understand what he is looking for – usually is food!

There are some requests, for example, the demand for food is expressed by many different gestures – because sausage dogs are always interested in eating but there are other special gestures.

If the dog keeps lying on the floor, he may want you to scratch his belly.

If the dog grabs something in his mouth as if he has found it, it is telling you he wants you to play with it.

If the dog licks on his owner’s face it often means that he wants to scratch his belly.

When the dachshund stands on the hind legs, it usually means he wants to join the game with the owner.

When the dachshund rolls over and over, it is not a surprise if he wants his owner to scratch his belly.

When the four-legged friend raises his front legs, it means that he wants the owners to give him something (which they are holding) or wants them to get him a toy.

Secret “death zone” on the ocean floor: Thousands of years without living creatures, NASA tried to ignore!

Lonely antelope “struggles” between the 8-pack lion: The outcome makes the viewer astounded!

Animal Cognition published these findings, scientists think that when dachshunds pull the toys out in front of everyone to show that he is hungry.

Owners of sausage dogs believe that when dogs keep their feet on the floor means they want their owners to scratch their fur. Furthermore, when they bite toys or slightly bite into the owner’s hands shows that they want the owners to play with them.

In some cases, scientists find that the dachshunds will give the next different signal if the first signal they give to the owner has not achieved the desired success.

What is the dachshund trying to tell you?

Rolling – “Please tickle me!”

Biting toys – “I’m hungry!”

Jumping up – “I’m hungry!”

Touching things – “Give me this!”

Putting his front legs onto something – “Open this thing!”

Rasing his hid legs – “Scratch my fur!”

Raising one leg and put on something – “Give me a toy!”

Rasing 2 front legs – “Give me a toy!”

Rubbing his head – “Give me a toy!”

Slightly biting – “Play with me!”

Turning his head – “Give me that!”

The most common gestures of dachshunds are “turning heads” – when they look at their owners and turn their heads to the object to show that they are interested in that. Not surprisingly, this gesture is very popular, and the object here is their food bowl.

Last year, researchers found that dachshunds raised their eyebrows in front of things which appeared to be exciting and could make their eyes bigger.

Experts from the University of Portsmouth (UK) also found that dogs create more movement on their faces when they are watched and observed by humans than when no one noticed them. They increase the frequency of gestures as a way to communicate with people.

It seems that people have been able to find out what their four-legged friend is trying to say when they bark and growl. If you want to refer to these 19 signs, please refer to the research results here.

Why Are Dachshunds Always The Best Friends Of Humans?

For thousands of year, dachshunds have joined our life and become our soul mate. How could this friendship exist?

Dogs are loved by everyone. Among those beautiful, smart creatures, why do people choose dachshunds as their partner? Have you ever wonder why you love dachshunds but not any other kinds of animals? If you have not found yourself an answer then please read the article below. These are outstanding features that only dachshunds have, making people love them more and more.

The bond between dachshunds and humans has shown through behavior in daily life, it develops and forms the process of loyalty between doxie dogs and humans.

It is because of irreplaceable qualities, “virtues” of dachshunds, let’s figure what those qualities are!

1. They are loyal and worship their owners

No matter who we are, rich or poor, sick or healthy, once the dachshund has considered you its owner, it will follow you for life.

If you forget to feed them or bathe, beat or abuse them, they will just sit sadly, absolutely not biting or showing dislike to you.

In many cases, when the owner died, the dog still waits by the grave or memorials places between him and his owner to wait because he believes his dearest friend will return, and the absence is just temporary, it might be just punishment for him only.

2. Unconditional love for their owners

When dogs meet their owners, their brain will release a hormone equivalent to when you see your lover. It can be said that the owner is the greatest love of every four-legged friend, more than other dogs.

If you do not believe it, walk your dachshunds out and then play with some other dogs. Your best friend will be jealous!

3. Never being greedy

Photo byHolly Peter Williams‎

If you are a beggar, just feed your doxie dog with excess rice, he will happy to eat it as he is having an expensive meal. Dogs don’t have greed or anything, they just need you to be there with them.

This will keep the owner being happy in every difficult situation in life because they see their dachshunds always integrate with all circumstances, always happy with this life.

4. Always trying to make their owners happy

Whenever you want to play with your dachshund, he will always happy to join you, to him play with you is the happiest thing on earth.

Therefore, dachshunds will be the best choice when you are sad because whenever you call, they will always be there to help you relax.

5. Knowing how to accept themselves, always being positive

In many situations, the disease, the physical defect, or whatever happens, they always love life as their owners. Autistic dogs are extremely rare.

This will help us, their owners feel happier, making the atmosphere always comfortable with them.

6. Being brave in every situation

No matter how dangerous it is, even if there are a lot of tougher opponents, your sausage dog will fight and protect you till the end.

There have been situations which dachshunds rescued their owners from a burning house, or fighting wolves, tigers to save their owners, it is a very precious quality, it shows that dachshunds are not just pets, but they are also a protector.

7. Being a quick-learner, easy to train

Of course, the dachshund is the easiest animal to teach, he never complains if you make him do it all over again, or do some difficult postures, he is even fun to learn that new thing.
